I wanted to (stress)test Substrate, Unreal's new Material system, in combination with Path Tracing in UE5.4.
Looking for a challenge with many different types of translucent materials, layers, iridescent elements and many kinds of material types, I decided to render an iced coffee (or tea if you prefer).
Some things worked very nicely, others did not (as kind of expected when testing a new Beta feature).
Learned a lot, cursed a lot over countless crashes and hit a few limitations, but ended up with some resulting images I really like and think are worth sharing.
